Yeah, the future is looking dark for Microsoft. Can anyone say Vista SP2? Because thats all it is. More junk code on top of junk code. On the bright side the future is looking better and better for OS X and Ubuntu. |

hi all!
its amazing how quick people forget the complaints about xp when it came out, give vista/windows7 time and it will be ok and even "amazing" gunslinger no offense ment but can you give a example of "bad code" in vista I have both os's running and I think vista is more user friendly. yes I know vista needs more memory but most of the computers around have 2gig and up anyway in a year from now thw standard will be 4gig. just my 2cents abe |

I remember when XP came out and the complaints are nothing like Vista. Customers were generally happy with the experience because they were moving from 9x/ME. Even before SP1 for XP it was clearly a better operating system than what most people were using. If someone moved from 2000 to XP then they might have complained in a similar fashion, but by the first SP they would have been happy.
Here we are now many months from Vista's first SP and the general consensus is it still sucks. I haven't met a customer yet that says they prefer Vista over XP. Not a single one. I remember people bringing in their computers to upgrade to XP back in the day. I haven't had single person that's asked me to install Vista on their system, but plenty that got Vista on a new computer and asked me to install XP. I never had anyone that brought me an XP machine and asked me to put 9x/ME on it. I'm guessing the majority of the Vista defenders drank the kool-aid and bought it, but now are trying to justify their purchase. I can't find a single feature that justifies "upgrading" and I've looked. It has such a negative stigma at this point I don't know if it'll ever overcome it. |

Vista was a fix for a non-existent problem.

It is the new OS they are working on and it does look like Vista as they are keeping the Aero design.
Gunslinger I have used and worked with every OS Windows 3.1 on and to me Vista is in very much the same boat as XP was at its launch. I agree it you went from ME to XP it was great but because ME is the greatest failure for MS. To go from 98SE or 2K XP had bugs and was slow just like Vista. I still don't recommend Vista but I don't actively avoid it. I have clients with Vista and I have yet to have a problem that is really to blame on Vista and certainly no other complaints from the users. The only thing to make Vista come off worse is that it is following the version of XP we have now which works great Vista does not have an ME to follow to show that its flaws are no worse then XPs flaws in its begining. |

I remember when Microsoft were stating that vista would have a completely new filing system - apparently they never got that feature finished in time. That was probably one of the only things that made me interested in upgrading.
I think to lure people to a new operating system they have to provide some killer features. Vista just doesn't seem to provide any. Everything just seems like a bloated mac os wannabe. i never like to bad mouth particular software os's or applications to customers, i rather give pro's and cons. But with Vista i do struggle to justify it's existence apart from a quick cash injection into microsoft pockets to fund the next OS. |
