Hello all. Here is a list of what I was given by my brother today. All of this is brand new and unused.
1. Cooler Master HAF 932 full tower case 2. 850 W Corsair PSU 3. evga gtx 580 (1.5 G) graphics card 4. evga x58 FTW 3 (USB 3.0/ SATA 3/6 G) mobo 5. 10,000 rpm Velociraptor HDD My plan is to sell the mobo (LGA 1366) and get an LGA 1155 that supports the i7 2700k. I will also need to purchase that processor along with some RAM so I am looking at putting out about $600-$650 to get this thing going. He knows that I am getting ready to officially launch soon and he said that I would get more use out of it than he would. I am not into gaming at all and I am thinking of using this as a bench machine, personal business machine, or as a small server for the network that I plan on building within my work space. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Raptor drives rock! Got two of 'em in my gaming rig. 5 year warranty, brutally fast. Good for gaming..heck, even a little home server.

If you don't play games, or what to use it as a bench or server, I suggest you sell the GTX 580 ....it's power hungry , you gone pay your 2700k without any problem with it

I would really push those parts as a high end gaming rig. Throw in a few minor parts here and there and it would make a GREAT gaming rig. The profit made from that would net you a really great bench machine, maybe two depending on how the market in your area is. I would also still push to get rid of that X58 based board asap due to the tech starting to become dated.

I would not waste my $$ on an I7 for a small server. It will probably be idle 99% of the time. Spend the extrta $$ on RAM and RAID storage.
