Adobe Flash Uninstaller is a small, portable application designed to forcefully remove all versions Adobe Flash. While this tool isn’t particularly exciting, it has come in handy a few times on computer repair jobs. The last time I had to use it I had a client who couldn’t play Youtube videos because they got the message:
“Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.”
I checked to see that Adobe Flash was installed and it had been installed. I suspected it was corrupt or something so I removed it using Add/Remove Programs and reinstalled it, same problem. So I used this application to forcefully remove Flash. I then reinstalled Flash and it worked like a charm.

While I can’t stand Adobe products, they are very good for job security. Thanks for the link.
had a similar problem with Flash, but this was caused by a virus messing with user permissions.
I used the SubInAcL tool from Microsoft and reset_fp10.cmd from Adobe to reset the user permissions and was able to reinstall flash. More info at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html
Again not the most exciting, but could help someone!
Ahh cool ! Choice one Bryce. This could help me out here. My partner always gets a message whenever her laptop boots up ( Meebo.com Notifier on StartUp ) sayin’ that she needs the latest version of Adobe Flash for Meebo Notifier to work ( even though she has the latest version ) . Click cancel and the Meebo Notifier works all the same.
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling like you said, and yeah; had no luck there either. Shes on the other side of the country atm; but I’ll make sure to post back if this tool works when she comes back.
Yup, this can be a very handy tool if you come up with adobe flash player problem, and can’t fix it with normal procedure. Thanks for sharing.
Huh, its sure come in handy. Thanks a bunch.
Last time I used this, it did not remove the dreaded flash file in the c:\windows directory.
You need to boot with BartPE, reset permissions (I like ERD commander for that) on the macromedia folder inside WINDOWS and THEN you can delete it. Pain in the butt.
I hope HTML5 Kills Flash forever. Noone working at Adobe knows ANYTHING about speed. All their apps are sluggish. ALL OF THEM.
Nice, very nice. Thanks Bryce!
This will be a handy tool to have. I used to always see the Flash error debugger window pop up on customer’s machines with FireFox. I did finally figure out the solution — installing and uninstalling an older version before putting in the newer one, but this will be a much cleaner and quicker fix!
I wish I had seen this 2 days ago! I had a client yesterday with the exact same Youtube problem & error message. I found the same solution, but reading this first would have saved me a good 15 minutes of frustration. Nice tip, thanks :D
Having an issue with Flash as I type! This is right on time, thanks! :)
You need to use a command line switch to completely remove Flash if there are files that won’t go away;
uninstall_flash_player.exe /clean
That gets rid of the stubborn .ocx file(s)
Thanks Ian, this program worked like a champ. :)
Another handy “tool” for Flash is the online Adobe Flash Settings Manager. Can make adjustments as well as delete “flash cookies”
