For anyone interested in learning more about how professional data recovery works and how we do what we do at $300 Data Recovery, check out these interviews with me and Carey Holzman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carey_Holzman).

Part 1:

Part 2:

Note: this was filled about a year ago and some things have changed (for example, we now perform head swaps for almost all model SATA/ATA hard drives).

That guy in the video acts like he knows somethin' bout data recovery. Well, I for one will be sticking with my deep-freezer method! J/K :p

Good job! The video came out great! Thanks for posting it up!

Great videos. Really informative. Thanks for doing the interview and sharing some of the processes.

As an aside, how many machines do you have in your workshop?

And how many drives do you normally work on at any given time?

Just being nosey here. If you don't want to say the figures publicly, I completely understand.

This is awesome, I will be watching over the weekend. I suscribe to Carey Holzman videos so he posted them up a couple days ago.

I watched these yesterday. I've always wanted to get into data recovery, but the costs involved are just a little too much for me at the moment.

Did anyone else see the info graphic go by that showed a 12%+ failure rate on 2TB WD red NAS drives? Wow! That's huge comparatively. WTF WD?

I would think the long term viability of data recovery business is limited with the trend toward solid state drives.

Glad you guys enjoyed! Part 3 (Q&A from Youtube comment questions) and Part 4 (Carey coming back to film more details on actual recovery process) will be coming too, and I'll link to them here when released.

>As an aside, how many machines do you have in your workshop?
~35

>And how many drives do you normally work on at any given time?
We typically have about 20-30 projects "running" at a time (meaning actively diagnosing, cloning, or moving data), not including newly incoming drives, outgoing/waiting for payment drives, or drives waiting for parts. We are growing every year, and this year has been no exception, with an average of ~220 successful recoveries a month!

Perhaps, but SSDs die too. We can deal with a good amount of these (in particular, firmware failures/corruption), but do not yet provide "chip off" flash recoveries (but probably will within the next year or two, as tools become more sophisticated and affordable). Also, I recently read something about how scaling manufacturing SSDs for huge capacity would be an almost impossible task given the cost; if true, large-capacity HHDs, at least, will be around for a long time.

Thanks TrevorT! Looking forward to recovering your customer's data!

Ya just got data back for a client of mine ... turned the whole thing around in about two days because he paid for rush. I told him to tell ya I sent him!

He was overall very happy with the experience and I'm glad I can rely on you guys! I'm just about 25 minutes away from you guys.

That's great to hear!! BTW... I don't think you're part of our referral program. If you're interested in more info about this, please send me an email. brian at 300ddr dot com.
