This is THE most powerful (not to mention, most expensive machine), I have ever had the privilege to put my hands on.

A gaming client rang me on Fri, asking if I can replace some fans in his machine.
Thinking it would be a easy job, I naturally said yes.

Anyhow, he comes in this morning..

Corsair 1000d case - £499.99!!

Water cooled.

He has fans coming out of every oriface.

Has bought 4 x Corsair LL120 @ £79.99 each

2 x Corsair LL140 @ £69.99 each

1 x Corsair H115i Platinum (RGB Water Cooling) @ £151.69

Corsair Lightning Pro @ £54.99

Corsair Commander Pro £ 54.99

Jesus. His fans alone cost more than my rig does!.

It's a brand spanking new pc. He just doesnt like the colours of the fans!.

Quoted him a hourly rate of £45.00. Estimate of 2-3 hours to get it all sorted.

This is fairly common where I'm from. Probably 20% of the builds I get in are of this level or higher, which is why I charge a huge premium for working on custom builds. The liability when working on a $3,000+ rig are much higher than a 5 year old $700 Dell. Be careful and know EXACTLY what you're doing. Chances are he brought it in with more than a fan problem. If he built his own rig, it doesn't make sense for him to bring it in to pay someone a premium just to install some fans. It's possible he's going to pay you to install the fans, then blame you when his machine gets back all buggy due to some other part having an intermittent problem. Of course, you had nothing to do with it, but he's trying to get you to pay for his replacement motherboard or something. I personally would have refused this repair. This is really fishy.
 
It's not a own build. He bought it from a firm complete.

He would have gotten them to swap the fans over, but their lead time is a week plus. Hes an avid gamer, had trouble letting me have the machine for 24 hours.
 
All of that money on cooling, and not even the 9900K? (perhaps the fans and LEDs exhausted the load budget prematurely?)
