Acer Aspire 5745 Bios Password

I purchased a laptop from a local pawnshop today because I was under the assumption that the laptop just needed a new hard drive (which it does) but upon further inspection it has a BIOS password and I can't reload the new drive.

Anyone have any info on how to short the CMOS/BIOS? or flash the BIOS on an Acer Aspire 5745?

Issue resolved, been awake for 24hrs+ ugh!

1. Downloaded updated BIOS 1.16
2. Renamed BIOS file from ZR7x64EC.fd ===> ZR7X64EX.fd
3. Burned CD
4. Insert CD
5. Uplugged AC, battery
6. Hold Fn + Esc
7. Insert AC
8. Power on laptop still holding Fn + Esc
9. screen will be black HDD and CD lights will blink and fan will spin up (faster than normal.
10. Let go of Fn + Esc
11. HDD and CD lights will continue to blink for between (1min to 10min)
12. When Laptop powers off then back on BIOS is clean.

Just out of curiosity, how did you learn this one? Also, will this work for most or all acer laptops or just the particular model you listed? I have a similar issue with an Acer laptop that a customer brought in for a virus removal. I can't remove it from within Windows, nor can I boot from a CD or thumb drive because I can't access the bios settings due to an unknown password, and the customer is clueless with regards to a bios.

Yea, me too. Did you get the info from an Acer Tech..??

Most Acers have this feature to forceload a bios just in case flashing went wrong etc I did it on an aspire one netbook that had a bad bios

when all else fails we can get most passwords

I searched and tried a ton of things that night, trial and error. It should work for all acers regardless, even if the BIOS is already up to date.

My 5745PG (Series 5745P model no: ZR7E)

Hi I have a model 5745PG here on the box set is 5745P series model no: ZR7E as soon as you turn the black screen is not part of this process I will try just do not know if the bios in question is right.

I know that bios comke download and rename them, and if you can possibly revive. thanks for the replies.
