I have a cilents acer aspire 4315 laptop, the cilents father was " mucking about" and has managed to password protect the bios, he has no idea what he did or how he did it never mind what the password is, I've "googled" this problem and tried all the backdoor suggestions, removing the cmos battery doesnt appear to be an option as I cant find a service manual for this model anywhere ( now I know there will be one ) I'm ready to throw the towel anyone else dealt with similar or know of a guanranteed to work sowtware solution?

doesnt work. there's lots of people on here with similar probs i'm trawling through old posts.

It does work. Just had this problem with customer acer laptop. Remove cmos battery, remove main battery. Leave out for several minutes. Pres power button. Reinstall all batteries. Didnt work for me the first time. Had to wait longer and follow all steps.

Next problem you may find is that there is now also a hdd password.

My thread on the matter is here > http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12903

And someone who can get you the bios and hdd passwords here >
(I used this service for the hdd password and it is the only thing on the net that will unlock it without erasing data)

And as for finding the cmos battery, remove all bottom covers, hard drive, keyboard, snap on facia's, and look for it. It will be there. If you dont see the battery, it may be out of view, but you will see the black and red wire pair that leads to it, and you can snake it out from there. On acers theyre always attached with 2 way tape.

search for backdoor password. Some BIOS manufacturers implement a backdoor password. The backdoor password is a BIOS password that works, no matter what the user sets the BIOS password to.
