Have a customers machine here an acer m3410 when i boot to windows it locks up hard, when i boot from windows dvd it locks up hard at windows splash screen and also locks up on splash screen of bootable pe of windows as well when i run dos apps such as memtest86 and diagnostic software it runs fine.
Visual inspection no blown caps, ran memtest86 through 20 tests no issues ran full hard drive diagnostic no issues and re-seated cpu and put new thermal paste all temps are normal.
Ran a cpu diagnostic also showed no issues also thinking it maybe a failing chipset north/southbridge?.
Also did a videocard swap was able to boot into windows once but lost the network adapter after a few hours of running.

It sounds like a memory issue. Throw Prime95 at it for a bit and see what happens. Better yet - Just change the memory for diagnostics to a known good stick.

Sounds like RAM man. Just swap the chip for a known-good ram chip and see what happens. saves time doing the tests for hours on end. sounds like you checked everything else out. Could be a bad chipset...hard to tell though.

Changed ram for known working booted into windows testing guess you can't really rely on tests had a hard drive that failed after running test even though it passed every test including smart.

Ya sometimes tests don't even work. It drives me nuts. But usually if something is screwy like that I don't take chances and replace the stuff.

The problem with Prime95+ nowadays is that it doesn't have the ability to put the hardware into "enhanced mode" - rather, everything stays at a fairly slow "limp-along" mode that will pass tests. Whereas in Windows or the Windows Installer the memory controller and board are driver'ed up and the gremlins come out.

You think it might be memory after passing memtest86 over 20 runs?

Memtest86 checks each memory address to see that it says hello. Prime95 beats the crap out of each address. If I suspect a bad memory module I'll let Prime95 run overnight. It's never taken longer than 4 hours when finding a bad module in an 8 GB machine. I don't use Memtest86 any more.

i checked the hp laptop on hp website no drivers and no bios update:(
can`t install any creators update what now it was shipped with win 10 lol.
