I cheaped out and only bought one QB license last time we upgraded with the idea we would be moving towards repairshop. As of now we have not made the move and need another license so I can work from home. If we have QB 2020 pro, do we another of those or can we buy a version of 2021 to go with it?

  • Multiples have to be on the same version.
  • All computers that access the same data file should be on the same update level as well
  • Repairshopr is NOT an accounting system. There are people that use it like one, but those people are doing it wrong, IMO.
Edit - $250 is a pretty good price - careful you didn't actually get the yearly subscription version of QB Desktop.

I am pretty sure it is a forever license(he did say it was). I did not have the plus version of 2020. I just added one user to my version

You only need licenses for each concurrent access. You can install the same license in more than one pc so long as two units with the same license are not trying to access the same data file.

Also QB sucks over any kind of Wan access or VPN. You are much better off using a remote access tool to control a pc at the office. Any other way is just asking for trouble.

We would still use qb on the back end, but would only need one license since we are not using it to check people out

We use one user for checking people out. I would be using another user at the same time doing backend stuff. This admin login would run at the shop on my desktop, but I can also use TeamViewer to log in from home to do work
