Addressing postcards to residential. What should go on ATTN: line?

Hey guys,

I am going to be sending out a bunch of postcards to addresses that I've just drove around and collected.

I am debating and trying to figure out what the best salutation is.

So far all I can come up with is Dear Resident. I like "Dear Valued Customer" but they are not my customers so I can't use that.

Some others:

To whom it may concern
Dir Sir or Madam

I don't really like any of these. I want something generic that can be used to greet unknown people, but I'd also like something that sounds very nice. Anybody have some suggestions? Keep in mind that these postcards will be sent without an envelope. I am not addressing anybody with a letter, I am just trying to figure out what should go on the ATTN: line of the address.

Any help is much appreciated. =]

You really want it to get into the hands of someone at the company that has the power to make decisions. That may sound stupid but if you put something on it such as customer, their employees may throw it away. If you put something such as "business owner" i would think you'd have a better chance of it getting in the correct persons hands. I may be completely off but it makes sense to me. lol Good luck with the postcards, let us know how the ROI is!

Thanks for the response but I am sending these to residential (consumer) prospects. =]

I thought of a couple...

Dear Neighbor
Dear Local Resident
Dear Computer User
Dear potential customer

just some examples. ou got me thinking about that too. I will post any others I com eup with.

Dear Neighbor
Dear Local Resident
Dear Computer User
Dear potential customer
Thanks generalj, I really like the Dear Neighbor one because I am targeting very close by residences and giving them a deal because they are so close by. Potential Customer did cross by mind but I think that sounds a little bit arrogant when you think about it.

I did this when I first started my business. Costs a fortune so I do not do it any more (but it was fairly profitable). The repeat business thing kicked in very soon after I mailed out 5,000 of the post cards. I used a full-service company (Postcard Mania) so I could demograph and target wealthy home-owners and businesses. They do everything start to finish for about $0.42 per card (I think postal rates went up since I did this a few years ago?). I mailed them in waves of 1,000 cards over a 12 month period to addresses very close to me. You have to look at your local demographics to see if this would work for you (it may not).

I made the front of the post card a glossy yellow ad with my business name and phone number prominent and a short list of services. Then I highlighted "15% discount when mentioning this ad" with no cutoff date.

The flashy (but pleasing) design and 15% discount is what gets your card into the right hands ;)
