Alternative to BitTorrent Sync

Hello,

I was using BitTorrent Sync (now called Resilio Sync) to sync files between my office desktop and home laptop. I stopped using it when I got a home office but now I'm back to separate locations again.

Anyone using anything else? No cloud storage required, just syncing over the internet. Needs to be two way sync. Doesn't have to be free but free is good.

Cheers,

Well I use goodsync but I am not sure if it has a built in protocol for direct connections or not. Unfortunately I can't look into it right now as this job has that domain blocked.

Rysnc is fantastic, will require some configuring though, and I'm not sure what the best option for getting it on Windows is

I looked at that but was initially put off by remarks about it not being user friendly!

Cheers.
I'd still take a look at that. There is a very nice youtube video on how to set it up. If you have two computers side by side on your own network you can always experiment with the software before you implement it in the real world.

Besides, it is always good to keep learning how to learn how software works - even if you have to do some work with text files and renaming them.

Yeah...that's my question. Looking for opinions from anyone on here to see what works well.
One man's feature is another man's bloat. You'll miss a gem if you don't try stuff in your own situation.

Personally, I use ownCloud as the 'master' and sync as required to different clients (for me, not all clients need the same resources on them), but you prefer not to have the cloud involved. I only have Linux and Android clients.

I have previously been very satisfied with Unison. Don't worry about the 'discontinued' tag – it hasn't been abandoned and it works well.

I have never used Bittorrent Sync, so I don't know it well enough to compare.

Since we're professionals and make a living mostly selling and supporting Microsoft products, we use the One Drive for Business, that comes with various Office 365 subscriptions. I've been using that since it came out. Yeah the first version a few years ago was sorta buggy, but last year they revamped it and it got solid! They just did another upgrade about a month ago. I sync between my office rig, home rig, and laptop that goes all over with me. My wife uses it for her real estate biz 'tween her two primary rigs.

The Sharepoint sites component is also great for sharing with others in your office.

Another product, DattoDrive. They bought up OwnCloud last year, and are developing that product.

I would go with Dropbox for syncing my own stuff between locations. Unison is great but for me seemed to require effort to maintain it.

I work from an office and home. I simply remote control the office PC for work which means I can take my laptop to site and not worry about exposing client information to others. Don't have to worry about encrypting it to cover for loss. And if my laptop at home is replaced then a simple SSH connection on my USB key means I can remote control work PC from any other computer.
