So the other day a customer came in asking if i could check his computer that couldn’t connect to his new internet connection (fiber), i said ok and asked for the computer, and he pulls a very old Windows 95 machine... i felt for the guy and told him that there was nothing i could do because of the age of the machine... he just wanted to connect to the internet and couldn’t afford a new one...

It might not work well, but it would certainly work. Windows 95 also has the huge advantage that very few modern viruses would run on it - security through obsolescence!

The Internet's been around for quite a while and we didn't all sit around twiddling our thumbs until Windows XP arrived so we could connect to it.

Actually it probably would connect just fine if it had a networking card. Of course the networking card would have to be an old one as well. But once he got one he'd have a hard time doing anything the browsers are so old with unsupported technologies.

I support a couple of Win95 machines out on the farm(s). They run the farm on DOS. They are unconnected. One's memory failed recently Can't believe I still had a couple of sticks of EDO memory. (Feeling old........)
