I have a customer with a bad LCD on a 13" MacBook Air (A1304), and I see plenty of people selling just the LCD, but all the replacement information talks about replacing the whole display assembly.

So does anybody know if the LCD can be replaced separately, or does it have to be the whole assembly.

Thanks.

LCD replacement possible

It is one of the more difficult LCD's to replace. You have to carefully remove the silver bezel from around the screen. This bezel bends easily, but does not bend back into shape! If you bend it the customer will be coming back eventually because the bezel will pull off the assembly.

I would suggest applying moderate heat, then use a super thin flat tool to remove the bezel... Work on it in sections.

Again, this is one of the more difficult of LCD's to replace, if you don't work on the Unibody Glass replacement, I would suggest buying the entire top assembly or sending it out for repair rather than risk the complications of the replacement.

Thanks. Is there anyone on the boards who is experienced with replacing these lcds, and would be willing to give me a quote for replacing it. I'm in Virginia.

Hi dgiles79,
EliteMacTechs can do this kind of service for you -- I've asked Nathan ("EliteMacTechs") to follow up with you for a quote.

We do tons of laptop screens as well. We made our mark by replacing unibody screens because the Apple dealer was trying to sell them the whole assembly for several times the price.

It is challenging if you're not used to it but absolutely can be done.
