So I updated my BIOS. (I've done this many times, on multiple computers.)

using AsRocks Windows Bios update tool found here:http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77 Extreme4/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

and everything went smooth.

I went into the BIOS and I am experiencing weird lag.

The screen will freeze for about 5-10 seconds and then update everything (Bios clock, mouse, temps)

and I cannot figure out what is the problem.

I have gone ahead and tried flashing the BIOS by loading it onto a USB and then flashing that way.

Same laggy results.

I tried restoring BIOS settings to default.

Same laggy results.

it loads Win10 and everything runs snappy fast. I only experience this lag in the BIOS.

Was the defaults using the BIOS interface? Did you pull the cr2032 and use the jumper as well?
Yes, I used the BIOS interface to restore defaults.
I can try the pulling the battery. I'll do that after this post.
haven't tried the jumpers either. I'll try that if the battery doesn't work either.

EDIT:

So turns out after 4.5 years of owning the board, I never realized it did not have a BIOS battery...
So I tried jumping the pins, didn't work either.

turned off PC
flipped PSU switch
Unplugged PSU
held power button down with intermittent presses for 15 seconds
moved pin shorter from pins 1/2 to 2/3
book said wait 5 seconds.... I waited way longer (slow reader)
moved the shorter back to 1/2
plugged in, flipped on PSU
turned on PC
got the message "your system has restored defaults press "F2" to enter setup, or "F1" to continue"
I went into setup

STILL LAGGY.

I am seriously looking at finding the older BIOS and flashing down because at least it worked...

Yikes and asrock doesn't post any details on the bios update that I can find. Asrock isn't completely retarded though so perhaps there is something unique about your system? Do you have any pci cards aside from a video card like perhaps a sata card of some sort?

I had a SATA card, but when I wiped Win7 and upgraded to Win10. I took it out.
I also have a USB 3.0 card, this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ARQV6U

aside from my EVGA 670 4GB
and USB 3 card.

my system is nothing special.

I haven't. I just assumed the last version worked with it. So why wouldn't this one?
Also, my mouse and keyboard are plugged straight to the motherboard.

Couldn't say because I have no idea what they have changed with their bios update. I simply feel when an update to the bios is giving you issues but other people aren't reporting same issues then look for whats unique about your system.

Took it out just to make you happy.

I am now happy...

It is working like it should!
Thank you for the help!

You might want to try emailing Asrock support and reporting your findings. I complained about a missing feature* in the BIOS for one of their (ordinary, budget) motherboards and they sent me a custom BIOS file with the feature enabled.

*I couldn't set the time for Wake on RTC from within Linux using rtcwake, so it wasn't even a 'mainstream' request. Very responsive and it was all working in 10 days from my initial support ticket, handled from their engineering support in Europe.

I have a z68 extreme from asrock, i know its not the same chipset but i use https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Superspeed-Ports-PCI-Expansion/dp/B00B6ZCNGM mostly because asmedia usb 3.0 blows.
I use my USB ports for peripherals.... So it really doesn't make a difference for me. I just needed more ports at one point. I don't really need them anymore. +the card works fine outside of the BIOS, so now that I got it set up, I could plug it back in if I really wanted.
