I have a problem with an ASUS X540SA manufactured 03-2016.
The battery is internal. Original battery was losing charge but worked for 30 mins or so before dying.
Replacement battery appears to charge ok but as soon as power lead is disconnected the laptop dies.
I've tried calibrating it, removing battery devices in Device Manager - all no good so I assumed I'd bought a duff battery.
Here comes the weird bit...the original battery now dies in exactly the same manner as the replacement!
Both batteries appear to charge ok. Both Windows and the charging lights show them charging to 100%.
But as soon as the power lead is disconnected, off goes the laptop.
I'm wondering if these batteries are smart or chipped in some way. Any ideas?
Here's what I did...
Replacement was purchased from eBay as "pulled from a new laptop" so there is an element of risk there. Opening the case involves removing a few screws from base, popping off top cover and removing 2 ribbon cables. Fitted replacement battery which has the same connector as most external fit laptop batteries and put cover back on.
Plugged in and gave it a few hours to charge.
