So i just got a new HDD like 2 days ago, (Toshiba X300 6TB). However sometimes it sounds pretty strange...
I've heard most Drive prob's are identified by the Noise they make, So I'm hoping mine is fine, maybe just a little noisy...

Here is a video of me holding mic next to the drive -

I ordered the drive the 15th, and it arrived the 18th, so if need be i can prob return/replace it... i'm hoping (the reviews don't speak well of the return policy)

Apart from the noise, have you actually ran any hardware diagnostic tools?.

They should be the first thing you run.

Okie, I'm running chkdsk now, and afterwords ima run HDDSCAN. Then i'll share the info. (which i'm hoping is good)

No, run manufacturers diagnostics only.

A superficial program like chkdsk will tell you jack.

But image your drive before doing anything. That is if you have any data you do not want to lose.

Ahh, okay.
It's just my steam library, nothing that important.
Toshiba has a general diagnostic tool, so i'll try that. Don't know how much info it provieds though, as from the images i see here, it just shows "Pass" / "Done" etc

Good plan.

If you're planning to return the drive then you'll need to run this test at some point anyway as it's likely to be the only one that the supplier accepts as proof that the drive is faulty. Unfortunately a lot of the manufacturers' tests err in favour of the manufacturer - I wonder why?

I think I have a Toshiba as well (2TB) and it does make some noises. I want to say everything is normal. If you ran a SMART diag tool and it shows as good, you're fine.

As always, backup anything important.

Yeah, I'm thinking it might just be "Normal noise" as a lot of reviews are talking about it.
Though i'm still gonna run the Toshiba diag.
(Would be doing it now, but chkdsk is still running, and i don't think i can stop it, lol) [5hrs left]

Does not matter now but I would have gotten THIS drive instead.
Yeah, looking at the reviews and such (and i personally trust WD more then toshiba) i understand why, but i'm kinda cheap >.> So i figured the $55 difference would be worth the risk. [Though most of the time, Reviews MAJORLY affect my decisions]

Which if the test comes back positive/fine, ima feel a little reassured in that decision.

Most of the Toshiba drives I have encountered over the years were a little noisy and still passed all tests.

But the key is to image all drives on a regular basis no matter the reviews or the cost. Do not keep all your eggs in one basket. ;)

I would never spend that much on a spinner drive - doomed to fail and 6TB backup no thanks. If spinners best to span data over @ least 2TB Min. If you backup to a cloud solution well yea..but nah

a have a 6TB toshiba and its noisy but fine. that's what a lot of the reviews said as well

Sounds normal to me, run CrystalDiskInfo to check integrity.

Attached here is crystalinfo, and the Manufacturer diag results.[Looks like it all passed, so i guess i'll insinuate it's just a normal clicking noise, etc]

(It's not a backup, It's for all my steam games in one location, as I'm not knowledgeable in Raid solutions and didn't now if i could get a bunch of 2TB's and combine them into a single unit/whatever with little effort. and i would think the fail rate or probability of 3+ drives would be greater then 1 drive.
