Basic Accounting software

Hey all

First off, I use PCRT and it integrates into the jobs at hand, inventory and everything service related really, so I want to use that to create invoices. I hate the idea of duplication.

So really I guess I just need a basic accounting software to track incomings and outgoings. But something to integrate into gocardless (or alternatives) for recurring payments would cut down on admin time. That way I guess PCRT could deal with break/fix and sales whereas the accounting software can deal with recurring payments, but I'd still have to input payments/spending only I can use a invoice ref# instead of all the customer deets?

QB integrator is on the cards for PCRT but I think I'm just going to end up complicating things whilst trying to avoid duplication which seem inevitable.

So for all those PCRT users out there, how do you deal with invoices, monthy recurring and cash flow tracking?

Quickbooks is unofficially - but quickbooks (desktop) is expensive and wayyyyy more than I need

Perhaps I need to look at it another way - use PCRT for work flow, and then generate an invoice in a seperate package and track payments that way

I recently switched from Quickbooks Desktop (2010 Pro) to FreeAgent. It's the best switch I've ever made in all honesty. So much is now automated for me compared to Quickbooks, which makes the monthly fee (£15 per month for Sole Traders) worthwhile. It integrates with Stripe for card payments, automatically pulls my Barclays account feed in, emails invoices/recurring invoices and reminders automatically and the best part of all is it calculates your end of year tax return. As it's all online, not having to worry about backups is also a weight off my shoulders.

GNUCash is a free alternative, but I have not used it in a long time, and used it to keep track of money, and do my invoicing. I loved it, but it had a learning curve, since I am not an accountant. So I am unsure if it will do what you ask, but may be worth looking into it to see!!

We use PCRT as well. With QB, we take the monthly sales report(s) and transcribe that over at the end of the month. With invoices, receipts, etc, from our outgoing of money if you will, we enter those in manually.

I am giving Quickbooks online a go right now. Being that I use a Mac as my desktop and a Surface Pro or MBA as my everyday carry device, i've come to dislike Desktop applications. I've got AutoTask as my PSA that handles ticketing and invoicing. ITDuzzit came as part of my autotask subscription and pushes all of the financial data from AutoTask to QuickBooks.
