I know this is very subjective, but I'm looking for suggestions on the best multifunction color laser printers for a high volume user.

Needs to be able to:
1. Print & copy quickly
2. Scan fat stacks of docs (up to 75 pages, sometimes of differing size papers) to her desktop without choking.
3. Print to both letter and legal size paper.
4. Duplex printing would be nice - but not essential.

Currently she's using a Brother: MFC-L9550CDW And it just can't keep up. Scans have to be babied & repeated, print jobs are slow. It might be OK for a lower volume user, but it's frustrating for this person.

On the scan side, what kind of daily/monthly volume is she doing? Multifunctions are nice, but if it's really high volume it's hard to beat a desktop scanner and they're designed to have the rollers replaced, etc. which I've not really seen on most multifunctions.

I'm not sure about the color models or their newer high-end stuff (when did they start splitting it out into SOHO/Small Workgroup/Midsize Workgroup?), but my biggest problem with their midrange monochrome stuff in the past was the PF & Laser "consumables" with a lifespan of 100k pages and no actual replacement options.

Not sure if your UK based by I find the printerland.co.uk a good website for looking for printers. You don’t have to buy from there but it has a good search function.

Got a handle on volumes? Scanning and printing? I've got a customer using a Ricoh Aficio, c3002 I think. But that a lot more than what your customer has. And they are under a managed printer contract.

Hm, if she's scanning 75+ sheets at a time and wants an ADF that'll hold them all she's either going to be looking at a good-size copier or at a workgroup scanner.

This comparison doc from Xerox may be useful if a bit dated. It includes the ADF capacity, check pages 5 and 6 in particular. http://www.xeroxscanners.com/downloads/Docs/Other/Scanner_Comparison_UK_062714.pdf

Edit: Holy crap, I think I love this site: https://www.tradescanners.com/comparison/scanners.php
Select a capacity range, then click on the ADF header to sort by capacity (to narrow down the choices in the 51-100 range).

That's pretty cool and useful. Thanks!

I really don't have a figure for her scanned volume. It's unlikely to be more than 300-500/day. Realistically, overall volume is probably a lesser issue. The main thing is that it handle a good stack of pages without stressing her out - whether that's 3 times a day or 10.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips, it's been very helpful!

I'm a big fan of the Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners. Everyone I've talked into buying them has loved them. I don't think you're going to find a quality scanner on anything you can buy from HP or Brother for under $1,000. For a printer to have a good scanner you'll probably need a copier type device that sold and serviced by a traditional office machines vendor.
