Hey folks. I require some assistance even wrapping my head around this one if anyone has run across something like this before.

I have a client who (prompted by an MS pop up?) to upgrade their livemail.com account to outlook.com.

At the point I got involved. The client now had an outlook.com account with a new email address (not just the outlook.com portion, but the prefix as well - compared to his old prefix @livemail.com) and an empty email inbox.

I attempted to log him back into his livemail.com account, but it appears to be non existent. Resetting the password - even though requesting for the livemail.com address, resets the new outlook.com address!

Did he just totally mangle this somehow? I would not think the creation of the new Outlook.com address would erase/defunct the old livemail.com account - especially without bringing over his emails (as well as his sub for office 365 which is also not shown in this new account - but his copy off office still shows it was created and linked to the old livemail.com account)

Le Sigh.

Thank you an advance for any input!

If it was web based then they are probably SOL. I was thinking that they might have been using the Windows Live Mail client (replacement for OE) that comes with Windows Live Essentials.

I am surprised at this though.. I would have assumed if MS suggested an update to Outlook.com, it would have kept the old email in place under the old account or moved the email to the new account. Seems very strange. Though I am sure there is likely some missing information from the story.

I hear you. They were indeed actually using live.com (sorry think I have been typing livemail.com. Sorry for the confusion). Regardless at this point, it appears anything related to their Live.com account is now - oddly - gone after they updated to the outlook.com account.
