I need to clone or make an image of a drive that has Quickbooks 2015. I hear I need to delete a file first or Quickbooks won't work. Does anyone know which file?

But that link doesn't list 2015. That's why im confused. I might only get one chance at this.
Well you could look for a C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8 C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v9 and see what you come up with. Also you could just rename the file rather than delete so it's a simple change back if it doesn't work.

Make a fresh backup from within Quickbooks before you do it. Document the license code & product key (F2 from within Quickbooks), make sure you have the disks or download link. That way you're covered if it doesn't work.

Also from the link:

After a Google search I found that you can delete this file, qbregistration.dat

Then when you open QB it will walk you through the registration process, doesn't take long and is faster than reinstalling.

The other option is to mount the old drive again. Do a full backup from within QuickBooks and then uninstall it. Use Revo Uninstaller to do it and let it do a full clean up. Then clone the drive. Reinstall QB fresh and restore from the backup.

I just blow away that entitlement file. We've done it literally hundreds of times...it's harmless. Like mentioned above..only has the registration info. Very simply just run through online registration again..takes only what...35 maybe 43 seconds? 60 seconds if someone is a slow typer?

A lot quicker than backup/restore 'n other ways to try to save that..useless file.
