Okay, this is a tricky one...
I have a Compaq Presario V5000 laptop in front of me in for repair. The costumer said that the battery is dead and will only run on AC power. After the repair (screen replacement) the laptop didn't boot: it would turn itself off after a few seconds due to overheating.
Now the overheating problem is fixed, but when I boot the laptop with the battery and AC power in it, it will turn off in about a minute. With only the AC power the laptop will turn off after a couple of seconds. When charging the battery a bit with no power on the laptop (so battery and AC power, but do not boot) and take out the AC power, it will run normally on the battery.
So, just to be clear:
- AC + battery + boot = turn off after about a minute.
- AC + boot = turn off after a few seconds.
- Battery + boot = runs fine.
I have no clue what to do or where the problem comes from.
