Dell Dimension 4600 CD Boot Problem

My mother recently got a new macbook pro, and is going to give her old Dell Dimension 4600 Desktop to my grandmother. So I pulled all her data off of it onto an external drive and proceeded to wipe the HDD.

I tried to boot into Hiren's Boot 15.1, but for some reason the computer wouldn't boot up into it. It would just kept booting into windows, even though I went into the BIOS menu and reset the boot sequence so the CD-ROM drive would boot first.

So I figured I'd just download a copy of DBAN, burn it to a CD, and use it to wipe the hard drive. I downloaded version 2.2.6 I believe. So I put the CD in and had the same problem - it wouldn't boot into anything but windows.

So I tried downloading an earlier version - 1.0.7, burned it to a CD, and it worked just fine. I figured it was just a fluke so I went ahead and wiped the HDD.

Today I went to go reinstall Windows, but now it won't boot into my windows CD. It just goes to the screen that says "f1 to retry boot f2 boot options". I try and reboot, but for some reason it just won't boot.

Now, the disc isn't from windows - I downloaded it from a torrent site, but it doesn't have any crack on it - its just a bit for bit copy of windows xp SP3 Home Edition.

What could be the issue here?
