I have a Dell Latitude E6510 with a BIOS A16 (latest) with a doozy of a problem. The client is a scientist that had to comply with HIPPA laws, and I mention this because I'm not sure if it means anything as to why is broken by locking the system down for some compliance reason.
So it came in because it had boot problems-running Windows 7 Professional-boot was sporadic and finally just gave up so after updating the BIOS, changing a thousand settings over and over again, replacing the power supply and outlet...I finally just purchased a new motherboard. This did not help, so I bought the client another Latitude online and sold it to her with success. No problems at all with the one I sold to her. Meanwhile, because this is a really nice machine and was expensive, I thought I would keep the whole shebang and figure it all out when I had time. I even took the processor out, examined it under a microscope, and reassembled to the same boot problem! Neither motherboard works, and I've switched out hard drives and memory to no success.
I can get to the BIOS setup screen but when I attempt to run F5 diagnostics it just sits there taunting me. No error codes or blinking lights.
This brings me to conclude that A.) The BIOS is still corrupted somehow or 2.) It's been taken over by aliens
I'm completely flummoxed. I really want to know what the issue was and still is but it completely eludes me.
