Hello Guys/Gal

I have a Dell mini netbook (Model: P07T001) which has a red x on the wifi symbol indicating the wifi switch is turn off. The main problem is that, there is no wifi switch on the netbook to turn it on. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, using dell troubleshooting tools for wifi, press the FN key and F2 to turn it on but no luck. I've even tried re-installing the OS but the problem persist. Also I keep getting a message saying wifi switch is turned off. But there is no physical switch to turn it on except the FN and F2 keys which is not working.... any solutions is highly appreciated....

System specs:
Dell mini netbook
Model: P07T
i3 Processor
1GB RAM
320HD
wifi ans wimax

I just looked at a Dell setup guide. Since you reinstalled drivers we can assume there is a WLAN mini card installed. The book says to just press F2 (the manual doesn't mention the Fn key) to enable/disable the wireless. An icon should appear on the display showing the status.

Check the BIOS. Maybe the WLAN card can be enabled/disabled there. If not the card could be hosed.

Had an HP like that where the f12 wouldn't switch the wifi on. Turns out the proprietary HP wifi manager had the option to switch it on which worked like a charm. Not sure if the Dell utility will do that or not but may wannna check.

I was going to say the same thing.

I had a laptop in a while back that had been dropped and the wifi wouldn't work, red x. I tried everything to no avail and finally opened up the bottom and removed and reinstalled the wifi card and boom, problem solved.

I had this problem once or twice before, wireless card wasn't seated the whole way or as I can best guess in one or two cases the connectors on the card oxidized and built up a resistance which in turn weakened the connectivity. A remove plus wipe down of the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and a reseating of the card fixed the problem.
