Display assembly compatibility rules among HP Envy / Pavilion / ProBook / EliteBook models?

Hi there,

I received a HP Envy 13-ab080nz with broken hinges as e-waste.
It is working fine with an external monitor and has an i7 processor.
After the LCD was broken, the guy who gave the laptop to me unfortunately threw away the whole display assembly, to that I cannot just replace the LCD panel and the hinges.
This also means that I don't know the part number of the screen assembly.

I have great difficulty finding a display assembly for Envy 13-ab models, but could more easily acquire other displays for different models (e.g. 13-ba...).

It appears to me that the bodywork for the 13" laptop has been quite similar those last years among Envy / Pavilion / ProBook / EliteBook / Spectre product ranges.
So, assuming I can acquire a HP Elite screen at a fair price, I could possibly graft it on the HP Envy.

On the palmrest side, the shape of hinges is often different, but hinges for the right model can be acquired for around 20$.
At the screen side, I would appreciate if the screen holes are compatible among miscellaneous 13 inches HP laptop from the same generation.

What I need to make for compatibility :
- same dimensions of the screen assembly
- same connector, or possibility ot swap the LVDS cable
- same spacing of hinges.

Other things are a little less important as can be adapted with some DIY.

So my questions are:
- What do the numbers after the screen size encode, especially each of the first two chars? (e.x. 13-ab080nz)
- Are there some compatibility rules among these numbers for the screen assembly and hinges ?
- Does some number encode the connector type ?
- Does someone have experience of possible compatibility for HP display assemblies, within one product range, or cross several ones?

Thank you.

Try HP Parts Surfer https://partsurfer.hpe.com/

@Peperonix get the UA # from the bottom of the laptop and type it into the search bar at https://partsurfer.hp.com/ and it will give you all the part numbers. Sometimes the entire display assembly is hard to find so you'll need to search by part numbers to get what you need.

BTW, if you click on the part number, you can also find other models the part # will fit. You can use those model #s to search for the display assembly.
