I have a MB Pro A1278 13" with a broken hinge (it broke off the Display frame). MB Pro works great display will stay up if exactly 90% but it does limit portability this way.

I think I understand the "frame" can be replaced and the display carried over from old frame?

Or I could get some super duper metal to metal bonding glue.

This really could not be easier to fix.
 
No actually it is hard.. The hinges aren't broken, the support for the hinge that is on the lcd frame snapped off. It would either need to be welded (not really a possibility) or glued with a super metal to metal glue. OR, have the frame replaced..

Alright, so you'll need this to go with the hinge...A little bit of work, (45 minute job) but no need to break out the J-B weld or anything like that. I think I'd throw in the hinge set anyway since they are cheap. Nothing worse than getting it all back together to find the display doesn't line up quite right because the hinges are bent

Do you really think a 45 minute job? Doesn't the display have to be removed from the old back? Isn't that one heck of a job? I don't know I have never done one before..

I would be willing to job you out the work if you are willing. I would purchase equip and pay for the replacement work.
 
I usually prefer to look at something myself before accepting anything. No offense, and it all seems simple enough, but I've done this sort of word of mouth (sight unseen) type of thing with customers, other shops, and other IT departments and more times than not it turns out there is more to the story. Then it turns out I lose money or it becomes a waste of both of our time. This is why I got out of the mail-in business. Let larger volume operations deal with the headache because they can do the type of volume to make up for losses. Not to mention, I'm not crazy about getting shipped "box o' laptop, assembly required". There is almost always parts missing, stripped screws, and the like of having to deal with the "muddy little footprints" of someone else's mishaps. It's one thing if its at the counter with the customer standing in front of me while I eyeball it and either accept or decline it.
 
I think I may try it myself... looks simple enough.. aside from the fact of bending the glass like it's going to break, the powermacmedic.com makes it look easy.

Yeah, the glass is really not that flexible. Replacement glass is always good to keep in stock anyway and depending on where you get your glass, it can be more flexible. It's cheap enough if it does break it's necessary to absorb the cost sometimes. Key thing replacement glass is easy to get, other components (like the rubber trim) not so much.

iSight camera is pretty straightforward. Just have to watch around that area when removing glass. Airport card (if it's the model with the Airport card in display) is under black center bezel and held in with a couple small Phillips screws. The airport antenna cables are even pretty easy (now just a small antenna board) as opposed to earlier Apple portable where the antennas were routed all though and around the display panel.
 
OK so job done turned it on and NOTHING (chimes boots), come to find out there is a display just no light. Prior to finding this out I ordered a new screen with same results SO, it must have something to do with the back-light.

Display works great through the display port hooked to another monitor. Keyboard back-light works great.

Where would you look, considering this is with TWO displays?
I believe the inverter is on the display? does the back-light connect to the logic other than the video and isight cable?

It's LED backlit, so no inverter. Probably the fuse on the logic board that powers the backlight. Exactly why I don't get into these sight unseen jobs anymore.

It's going to take at least a good volt meter some really good soldering equipment unless you want to spring for a logic board.

Follow this thread to give you some ideas of what you are looking at.
 
So ok found out what happened. I didn't practice safe battery disconnection, and more than likely shorted a solder point on the motherboard.

I sent it into the company that sold me the screen Microreplay.com, in Boston. They do board level repairs.

It turned out to be a blown fuse for the backlight. Since I purchased the "whole" screen from them they did the repair for free! Was that awesome or what?

So MBP is working fine.
