Emachine d620 Bios Password

Have a customer with a bad mobo bought a replacement from ebay and it works fine boots up to windows

However i cant get into the bios, it has a password on it and the seller just sells mobos they dont have the password and i can either return it and reinstall another which will take time and i will have to take it apart again and send the old board and wait for the new board that is if they have it

I took the cmos battery out for 6 hrs and the password still remains

I cant really give a customer a board with a bios password

Is there a way to clear the passcode, there are no physical jmpers on the board and i am not even sure which chip is the bios if i can find out which chip it is i can remove it and replace it with the bios chip from the old board which i did not recycle yet

I got the board for $20 bucks too

Try the password generators, I think they were mentioned once under Repair Tools of the Week.

They do not work all the time but I have had success with them so worth a try.

In a way you are locked out! I don't recall incorrect attempts permanently locking any bios, sometimes you have to simply restart and counts reset. Generator is looking for the back door code that manufacturer puts in so should be ok if you can find correct one. As for swapping bios chip, it's generally near the battery and marked with bios manufacturer. Most are soldered direct to board so unless your very good at desoldering soldering I'd go route of finding pass code

will take a look at the board, i do smd/smt repairs so its no biggie for me

at least right now it boots to windows so its usable, if i cannot get it working will just sell it as is and most people dont go in the bios anyways

Hmm, I know this probably sounds a bit obvious but was everything disconnected from the mobo when you removed the battery. If its still hooked up to the laptop battery or such there will obviosuly still be charge. Worse case have you checked to see if it will accept a firmware upgrade without the password?

Have you contacted Acer? Most have laptop manufactures have a master password that will unlock the bios.
