Hello I I'm working in a windows Vista:( Home Premium machine. Just a walk in the park problem. windows Update does not work.

The error that I'm getting is Error 80070005 Update encountered an unknown error.

First i stopped the antivirus Norton 360, antispyware - superantispyware and nothing.

I have done the following:

msconfig
selected the Services tab in the open window. Check the “Hide all Microsoft Services” option and click Disable All.
Switch to the Startup tab and click Disable All.
Click OK to save the settings and select Restart when prompted.
Check whether Windows Update works properly.

Nothing,

Also did this,

Step 2: Reset Permission
====================================
1. Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save the installation patch on the Desktop:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en#AffinityDownloads

2. Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file.
3. Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission settings on the current machine.

Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click "Continue".

4. Click "Start". In the Start Search bar, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter.
5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window:

@echo off

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

@Echo =========================
@Echo Finished.
@Echo =========================
@pause

6. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose Save when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the save location.
7. Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator."
8. You will see a DOS-like window processing.

NOTE: It may take several minutes. When it is finished, you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue".

Please restart computer and run Windows Update again. If the issue persists, please help gather the following information for further research.

Nothing

Getting stomped,

Please any help will be appreciate it.

Last time machine updated was March 10, 2011 and the last programs that did updates were 4 apple applications, Itunes, Bonjure, Apple Mobile Device and Apple App Support.
:(

Thanks in advance

Error Code 80070005

This is often caused because you are not an Administrator, or do not have administrator priveleges. A well phrased problem is half of the cure, and in this case just make sure tht your account has the 'top dog' administrator priveleges, and is using them.

Once you have logged off an logged on again (as Admin) just re-apply the Windows Update or hotfix. Incidentally, insufficient rights or priveleges is a common thread of other types of Access Denied problems in general, and code 80070005 in particular.

Good luck

I understand what you are saying and its correct. That was one of the first things I did, insalled a user with all administrative tools at my disposal and nothing.

Thanks

Take a look at the windowsupdate.log file, you can see the exact details of what Windows Update is trying do.

Do a search on google and see if there are any results involving Norton 360 and the Windows update error message.. I just quickly looked and there some solutions that you may want to look at.

Yes i did and checked the windows update log and it even tells me that some updates were installed.

Its frustrating, sometimes the sipler issues are the worst.

I even went to command, and did:

net user administrator /active:yes

and the answer was access denied.

Still trying to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.
