Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Another Microsoft cluster-bleep!

Customer's old laptop died. He used it while employed by a company that used Microsoft 365 for email and apps. He doesn't work there anymore.

He bought a new laptop. I restored his data from the old drive using Fabs. Picked his Outlook stuff as he had both business and personal accounts. Bought a new sub to Microsoft 365 Personal. After installing and activating Office I'm getting:

"Tell us the account you want to use to open autodiscover.xml" and it prefills his old work account. If I try to plug in the personal email it just reverts back the work email.

Google results all point to a lot of frustration and no clear answers. Since it's a brand new machine and the customer is not in a rush I'm going to nuke and pave and try to avoid restoring anything related to the old work account.

Never seen that.
Just in case, have you downloaded the office 365 installer from MS website or did you use the preinstalled office program? This one must not be used as it will not see the restored settings.

This a new Dell Latitude that did have some preinstalled Office software, but not sure how much it was really installed. During my initial setup of the machine I used his personal Microsoft account. It was going to activate a free trial of Microsoft 365 and I was about to go through with that, but backed out when it was going to do the $99 version instead of the $69 version. So I did the initial OOBE without a 365 trial.

To install 365 I went online and downloaded the setup program and ran it. Didn't watch it closely.

Bottom line, I'm not sure if it really installed cleanly from the downloaded installer or the preinstalled one.

You can find out what version it is by looking at its path when you try to run Outlook. If the path is like "C:\Program Files\WindowsApp\...", then it's the preinstalled version that's set up

Hey Fabs - It's time for me to repurchase, do I have to create a new account on the current purchase page? My existing account credentials don't seem to work there, even though I can log onto the archive page fine. Thx!

I've been able to get all customer IDs but not the passwords. You may just need a password reset on the new store website

Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.10.0.5673 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Pro only: ability to keep items unselected by default. For this, create a "Defaults.ini" file in Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro executable folder. Any item can be excluded by default like Apple IOS devices backups. For items list, see user's manual at page 46.
- Support for Windows Explorer quick access pinned folders (Windows 10 and 11).

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://archive.fpnet.fr/account.php (ordered before May 1st 2022) or https://store.fpnet.fr/en/order-history for newer orders. You can also use the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Aloha Fab. I've been able to access your new "shop" by changing my password, but the order history page is empty. Should it show my order history? Or do I just create a new order (I can't remember if you provide a discount for renewing customers...).

That's normal. I could not migrate orders when I had to change the store website.
You will find them at https://archive.fpnet.fr

About the discount coupon, I've sent one to your mailbox

Thanks for renewing your license. However, I'm a bit surprised that you finally did not use the discount coupon I've emailed to you. Haven't you got it ?

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office 7.10.1.5716 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Pro only: To make default items exclusion handling easier, the program will now create the Defaults.ini file inside the program folder if it can do it (if it is writable). This, way, there is almost no need to check user's manual in order to exclude an item by default. Just edit this file using Windows notepad, set the item to exclude value to 0 and it will be ignored for next backup/transfer job..

Removed:
- IncrediMail support. This discontinued email client relies on Flash Player which is also discontinued.

Fixed:
- Minor cosmetic issues

It would be useful to report the registered antivirus in the Installed Software report.
This can be obtained from the registry, or the script command:
Get-CimInstance -Namespace root/SecurityCenter2 -ClassName AntivirusProduct

as mentioned in this article:

Sure I guess that could be done quite easily. That being said, it also should appear in the list as an installed program right ?
Also, that would work only for current running operating system. I don't think I can find this for a hooked drive or from a PE.

Edit: the thing seems to be doable even with a hooked drive or from a PE boot media by querying he registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Provider\Av
Now, I need to get and parse the AV product names (there can be more than 1) so I can put them in the report.

Edit2: All good. The registry thing works a treat. This way, I can get all installed AVs from any system, even if it is hooked drive or it has been booted using a PE media. Of course, Source software registry hive must be readable for that! That will be in the next update.

The installed software list can be quite long with lots of stuff that isn't needed, I've missed AV software in that list on occasion.

Fantastic!

I dont seem to have any luck with new versions of Fabs Autobackup.
Latest version keeps getting stuck on "Taking Ownership of: Additional Folder" or "Processing Public Additional Folder."
I've tried stopping and restarting Fabs, restarting PC and re-run Fabs, leaving it for 4 hours etc.

Older version works like magic.

Is that just for a particular PC or drive? Maybe the drive has issues, try cloning it first.

EDIT: Oh it's barcelona in disguise... I suppose you've already though of drive issues. Sorry, ignore.
