Hi Guys,

Im looking for a Free/Cheap Helpdesk/Service Desk App. I have looked on the web (Google/Yahoo) and found a few.

I was just wondering if you guys have any software in place that you would recommend.

I would like features such as:-

- Creating Logs Assigning Log numbers.
- Small Client Database (Clients Details)
- Email Alerts
- Escalating Calls

If anyone has any suggestions then i would be very greatful.

Cheers

I don't know. Spiceworks seems more suited as an internal helpdesk whereas ISS's offering is definitely more geared towards third party service companies. Why don't you try it and find out?

Web Help Desk

It's tough to beat this help desk software by Web Help Desk.

They have a Free Help Desk Edition for one support agent.

It has all of the bells and whistles...looks stellar...easy to config....has email alerts and SLA escalations...has a customer web portal and knowledge base.

Tough to beat! Good luck in your search, but I wouldn't look much further; you can go literally insane looking at all of the help desk software solutions out there. lol :D

@PaulR

Like spiceworks it looks fine for use as an internal helpdesk but falls down completely if you consider using it in a support company.

Really? Web Help Desk tracks time and materials for billing and supports deploying parts to tickets. You can create a PDF quote or invoice right out the web-app...

We changed the "Location" label to "Customer" and each enduser is associated with a Customer and we bill away! :) It even supports different state taxes and GST & PST for our Canadian customers....

Ok, I stand corrected. A shallow opinion based on a brief look. Are you paying BTW or can all that be done in the free version.

We've been using Web Help Desk for years now. I caught wind of the Free Edition thru a newsletter or on their forum, can't remember.

Looks like their free edition has everything in their lite edition. Here is their help desk feature comparison.

Help Desk Authority

It's not open source or free but the pricing is very reasonable.
After the 30 day free trial we went ahead and bought the full version.

As for the features, I think it would suit your needs.
The tool is great for external customers support providing a web portal for issue tracking, knowledgebase access, issue escalation, outlook integration.

We have used Microsofts "Call Center" template for Sharepoint for over 1000 Workshop bookings and over 1500 support helpdesk logs.

It doesn't have a billing module 'out of the box' but you can add your own fields (as we have) for costings, time booked, parts used, customer passwords etc.

We couldn't live without it now. Have a look at their demo below...
