Gaming PC black screen issue

Ok, so the saga continues. The new gaming rig I built for a client about a month ago is having an issue. Below are the specs. It’s getting a black screen when gaming. He has lowered the graphics. Still happens. He says it occurs in destiny 2. Hasn’t happened in another game.

I checked the temps when running destiny 2 GPU was at 55c to 60c, and the CPU was at 40c. I have totally removed and reinstalled drivers. I have reinstalled direct x. I have checked the game files. I made sure the windows update is current. I have even rolled back the driver to the previous version. I have run furmark at 1920x1080 and anti-aliasing off. I ran for about 15 minutes and went to a black screen. I was watching the temps through the corsairs icue app. The temp for the video card was in the high 70s. The CPU was in the mid-40s.

Made sure all other drivers were up to date also.

The windows log lists before error 6008 where the computer must be shut down and restarted as 41, 29, and 1000. A photo below is attached of the errors.

I have reseated everything. Any suggestions on the next move would be helpful.

So the issue is caused by the Desktop Window Manager.
The GPU could be slightly moving out of its socket as the temperature around the PCI-e socket fluctuates.
Modern GPU's are heavy and that could exacerbate the problem.
To test, can you lay the PC on its side so that the weight of the card is pushing into the slot?

  1. Personally have not had this experience though perusing the googs -

    - Make sure the card is seated firmly in slot
    - Some controllers such as XBOX can cause the error

Yea the card is seated firmly. The client does use a controller but it was not attached when it black-screened for me.

Something seems to be hammering the DWM process, I would go with a DISM & SFC if no fix then Repair Install. If still nope, as @GTP.

Have you temporarily tried to adjust the display for "Best Performance:, just to see if that resolves anything. It probably wont, though worth checking. Is this Win10 or 11 tried a different card just for testing purposes.

I ended up nuke and paving. It seems to run better. I ran destiny2 at the most my monitor could handle 1920*1080, running 240FPS for over an hour without an issue. GPU was in the 60s and CPU 40s to low 50s. I think I might just have fixed it. I will play for a couple more hours later to make sure.
