Hi ALl,

I have a Gateway One ZX6951 AIO PC that I picked up this AM. I need to remove the hard drive -- simple I thought but there are NO SCREWS on this case and I can't seem to find a service guide or any information on Google about how to get it apart. Has anyone dealt with these or does anyone know where I can get a service guide for this thing?

I've done a couple of them. Most of the time you try to remove the stand first, that can be a slide cover or pop off which gets you to the first screws.

Google "gateway one disassemble" and you will see some of the tricks some of the models have for opening. I recall one model had release buttons on the sides and some had screws covered by rubber feet.

Lots of fun.

I did one of these about a year ago. It had a glass "picture frame" kind of surround. Snazzy, but a real PITA. Screws were hidden under rubber plugs and the base had to come off as part of the process as I recall.

Thank-you! I googled but came up empty. I just went to the stand as you said and popped off some covered with a spudger! Now there are 3 screws on either side -- at least that is a start!

Ok well that took the stand off but now I can't get anywhere. There's no screws under the bottom feet - now they have to be glued back on. And nothing under this faux plastic cover on the back either!

When you say picture frame -- do you mean these come apart from the front? I can't see any access from the back/sides at all, even with the stand removed!

Hmm nope it doesn't seem so - the bezel doesn't come off at the bottom of the screen (or it's on REALLY tight and I DO NOT want to break it) and it doesn't seem to come off from the sides (again too tight, it dosen't like my splodger!)

I've never had a computer I just couldn't take apart before... VERY frustrating!!!

Edit: Make that EXTREMELY frustrating. Just broke my spludger trying to follow these instructions for a ZX4931-31e-- clearly these are not built the same.
Did mine a couple months ago, and it wasn't all that bad. You need to lay the unit face down on a padded surface, then remove the port cover and the covers over the tilting stand. Then remove the screws attaching the stand hinges to the chassis.

The rest of the cover is held on by the infamous "snap locks", which can be a bit of a pain to release. You need a thin, flexible blade, like a machinist's scale or narrow artist's spatula. Work it into the gap between the back and the main frame of the case, and slowly slide it around the case perimeter while prying gently upward. There are 4-5 snap locks on each side of the case, and once a few of them pop loose, the rest start to get easier to undo.

Be aware that due to the design on these particular snap locks, it is quite likely that you will crack one or 2 of them. This doesn't pose a problem for putting the cover back on (there are more than enough of them to hold it on), but it will leave evidence that you were inside the case. Not a good idea to try i you care about voiding your warranty.

Once you get the plastic back cover off, there is a metal inner cover that removes simply with a handful of screws, giving access to the RAM slots. I also upgraded the HDD at the same time, and it is a standard 3.5" SATA drive, accessible by removing a couple more screws and sliding the drive bracket out.

Reassembly is simply the reverse of taking it apart.

There was a large plastic panel on the back that came off after a bit of effort. This revealed screws that held the glass surround on. I will see if i have a Record of the model number. I don't remember any other details than it was really heavy.

Well I'm afraid the whole case is going to break! I just busted my knuckle and ANOTHER spudger. Am I missing any other screws?

I took a video of the challenge, trying to upload now.

OK this is seriously NOT funny. I found out that the back DOES snap off. I have almost 1/2 of the case dislodged and now I find that the bottom 1/4 does NOT snap back in (the top does) My knuckles are banged up and I'm bleeding, my fingertips and numb, and now I can't seem to get any further than this:

.. and worse is I've gone too far to tell the client sorry I can't do this!

Does anybody know, am I missing some screws somewhere around where I'm getting stuck (yhough I don't know where they would come from!?)
I'm going to bed tonight, maybe I will have better luck tomorrow!

OK, my head technician took a look at it this morning and he has confirmed my worst fears -- he can't find anyway to get the rest of the back off!

I've never had to throw away a $300 job before, and this is really not good timing for it either. Dos anybody know IF there's a way to disassemble this thing?

Take a good quality picture of the back. Lie the machine face down on a hard surface, be sure the LCD does not actually come in contact with anthing.

Remove that snap on piece and take a picture of that general area and post it here.

I probably have done the one you are talking about, but a photo will help.

Thanks NYJimbo! I'm not too sure what you mean by "remove the snap on piece" as I can't seem to remove anything.

Here are the pictures, let me know if these are good enough or if you need more:

That little slot with the picture of a padlock next to it is the release. It looks like you already got that one, though. Are there any other slots like this? There is an ehow video on the 4900 series. I would watch that - there re probably similarities.

Can you remove the plastic plug to the left of the COA? This doesn't look like the one I had - sorry.

Yeas, I already removed it -- permanently :( I tried to spludger it out and the clips snapped --- there is nothing underneath. so I glued it back on.

Thanks, I have that part released and I *think* that padlock is just a place for a Kensington lock.
