Embarrassed to say I did't check the version of Outlook but I know it's not O365 she has no MS account
Outlook was working fine up to two days ago
Now when she tries to input her Gmail account it just keep looping back to that popup screen asking for her email address or phone number
Doesn't recognize phone number and still loops back when I input her gmail address.

Ccleaned it just in case
Checked for viruses
Turned on Google security for less secure apps
Changed imap to googlemail
Removed Webroot av
Went back in system history (did that first)
Gmal .com works she's logged in and getting mail
Checked setting to receive and send email
Before me someone reinstalled outlook for her

I think that's it. Someone probably has a one line suggestion for a fix so I can slap my hand to my forehead. Right now I'm using my fist :-)

Yet another reason to use O365, current versions of Outlook support Google's native Auth, including 2FA. So you just feed it the email address and login.

Should be the same case on any fully patched 2016/2019 office installation. 2012/2010 cannot. 2012 can be changed via a registry edit to support MS's 2FA, but I haven't seen it work for Google's. So if you're there you're forced back to app passwords.

Unbelievably or believably since it's MS and Gmail. Setting up an app password didn't work. The only thing I can think of is creating a new account, dragging and dropping into the new. Deleting the old account. Recreate the old account using the app password then dragging everything back again. Fortunately I have convinced her to go straight to Gmail.
