it was a mirror raid array, tried pulling 1 drive out and expanded over hal.dll from xp home cd to the slaved hard drive, fixed the missing hal.dll issue but then the computer bluescreened with 0x000007B error which is usually a hard drive controller issue.
not sure where i go from here besides a backup and reinstall

i couldnt do anything from the recovery console due to not having the raid drivers

i havent really messed with raid arrays much but was wondering how i would find how i could at least find drivers for the raid controller which is onboard on a dell motherboard, dell's website offers none and nothing in the raid config info to tell me much

I have toyed with raid 0 and 1 not on a hardcore level before what is the raid controller name in bios.

NVidia or ICH10R or Silicon or Marvell

At bare minimum what kind of dell model is it

Well if you dont get back tonight or I cant give you the driver location check this out.

I think your raid 1 is detecting a difference in size now they are built where even removing them and powering on the PC and then resetting the drives and bios changes triggers a warning flag of some sort.

Dont worry. Make sure 1 drive can work and stand alone and back it all up!!!!!! (im sure you did that) So go into bios and get it working like if it was a normal single disk. Verify that this is the drive what you want to clone. (My HDD RAID knowledge is very rusty. I hope others can clarify better.)

Shutdown,

Now connect your "to be copied drive" when the PC boots bring up the BIOS and set up your RAID then save and boot up your RAID menu its going to be like a CTRL + R deal.

look for a rebuild menu. MAKE SURE YOUR REBUILDING THE RIGHT DISK TO DISK the RAID bios should automatically begin a rebuild do this. It will take a while. I think you messed it up when you took 1 drive and modified it separately. If this was RAID 0 you would have killed the array. (well it probably wouldnt even be formated)

Others can help clarify. If you left your XP home install in untouched condition it should work fine. and boot right up without drivers.

sorry i had to get some sleep last night, still jetlagged from my trip
i was able to get the bootmenu , itried to pick last known good config but during the xp boot screen it locked up , not sure if it was due to not having the raids in sync, im going to try to unhook the second one and try again

ok this moved to being a raid issue now, the customer had brought in his dell recovery disk , but even that doesnt have the drivers for the raid, when i got to recovery console it doesnt see the disks, im not sure if i should go into the raid settings and change the disk back to non raid , because im not to sure if it erases all the data or just the raid info , and even though i ghosted the drive i didnt want to go through the process of restoring settings and files

SATA RAID

IDE

This is the driver. I have no idea what application accelerator means. im sure its one of intels gimmiks :) But this is the standard SATA RAID driver the IDE RAID. (your using IDE right?)

Now you can expand the instruction right there and Ill also copy and paste them below. (I like listing extra information for forum searches)

I also confirmed that you should do a rebuild from the good drive to the drive missing the HAL.dll The RAID bios menu will assist with this. NOT the BIOS menu but the RAID BIOS menu. It will do a complete clone, so if you get no status bar it should TAKE A LONG TIME!

The RAID BIOS menu will only work right if your regular BIOS list the two drives linked together.

I hope you have everything backed up. This could be a disaster if not done right. Here is the instructions so you can do a repair install after wards.

Goodluck.

P.S. you may need to go back and get the Windows Software that supposedly "boost" the HDD performance.

tried both of those and neither worked, i called Dell tech support and they dont even have the drivers for it. they said their contract for the drivers or something ran out, theyre going to have to research it and put the drivers on their support site, and to check in an hour
