So what did work, and seems to always work, despite it's 1990-style of 3 color command- line styling and interface...and is free? Good 'ole Clonezilla! (I will now investigate what all utilities came with the Samsung 500 gb EVO
(And how long did it take to clone 240 GB of used space on a 500 gb 5400 rpm Seagate Momentus laptop drive at a throughput of a massive 550 MBytes/minute throughput? Just a quick 6 hours or so...!)
EDIT: (I'm sure the included Samsung migration utility is easy to use, but, Clonezilla is just more interesting,... perhaps because of it's danger of carelessly clicking the wrong thing, and cloning in the 'wrong direction'?)
(Post-clone operation Samsung benchmarks show 501 MB/sec sequential read/480 write....success!)
