Hirens boot CD 15.0 is Awsome

Hiren's is not exactly news to the tech community. Do a search of the forums and you'll find some lively discussions on its legality. It was originally pretty much nothing but pirated software and Hiren has been (slowly) cleaning up his act.

If you'll look at the current version you're recommending, there are at least two pirated softwares on the list. One can say "Just don't use those" but being in possession of pirated software of any type can have consequences for a business and a lot of techs won't touch Hirens because of that. When one can get the free softwares in an, albeit, less convenient individual-but-risk-free manner, one might be wiser to do so.

i used winbuilder to create a live cd... works great!! Hirens is great too... i use
it limitedly.

I have used Hiren's CD many times for password resets, which is pretty much all I've used it for. Although I am a Technet subscriber and get all of Microsoft's apps, I find ERD extremely slow to load in order to do a simple password reset.

Ever tried Konboot? - its a lot quicker :) also it wont bork encrypted files which is a risk with password changes/resets

Actually, I've read up on it a little bit but have never used it. I'm pretty much like most of the other techs on here and prefer not to use illegal/pirated software. I may give it a try later this evening. One question though...It doesn't reset the password but just bypasses it, correct?

I had been updating my computer repair disc' collection just a few days ago and noticed i had hirens boot cd v7 (maybe 5) which i think i had burned back in 2007 so i decided to burn myself a new updated version and try it out and wow! I mean i have been using UBCD4WIN for years now and to me it is slow and doesn't really suite me doesn't have as updated software as i'd like to have and it would BSOD on ALOT of computers at bootup.

The new hiren was great! very up to date great software collection by default and the mini windows is awesome makes me feel right at home and free! i can plug and unplug usb devices while in the mini windows and i was also able to run it on my lenovo laptop that i was not able to run UBCD4WIN on because it would BSOD me. I also keep ubuntu around and find it to be OK but mainly just for data transfer in bulk.
