Just a week after saying it would layoff 600 Geeks Squad employees this summer, Best Buy Co. Inc. announced it will hire 500 for the division by the end of the year.
But they will be employees with a higher level of skill. The employees who are being laid off are mostly technicians who work on only on TVs or personal computers.
The employees who will be hired will be able to work on multiple devices and will focus on Best Buy's faster-growing small-businesses services, the Star Tribune reported.
The move comes after Best Buy spent $167 million to buy MindShift Technologies, which provides cloud, data center and professional services to businesses.
