It's nothing I lose sleep over. S'long as the CPU and the heat sink surface are clean...I just plop a blob in the middle, and put the heat sink down on it with one straight down movement. Moving around and trying again and again is what ruins it. Straight down, lock it on the first shot.
But with the good thermal pads in use today, the old clearasil goop isn't used much anymore so most of this is just memories of years ago for me.
