Instead of using 3rd party cartridges, I usually refilled original cartridges with 3rd party ink. Thankfully these cartridges usually have an refill hole with a metallic or rubber ball in it, and it makes it easy to reseal them after refilling.

As for HP printers, in my experience, they usually work with refilled cartridges just fine even though the printer considers them to be empty. It should be noted that HP cartridges have expiration dates printed on them and printers won't accept them past that date(unless the user changes current date on their PC).

Keeps complaints of clogged up junk, that results from 3rd party ink. I believe there's only 3rd party vendor in the US authorized by HP to reman cartridges (toner), and that's Flotech.
20+ years of doing this, when I see printer problems related to ink/toner...there's a greater than likely chance its because crappo 3rd party was used.

I stopped buying, selling and recommending HP printers... especially after half of HP's own in-house cartridges don't work, either. Last HP printer I went out on a service call for - it had "Activation Cartridges" or "registration cartridges" or some nonsense. Well, brand new out of the box the black wouldn't read and the printer would go no further. Without those "special" cartridges at first use, it is a paperweight. Returned back to the store for a Brother... worked within 2 minutes, naturally.

We only sell HP printers and don't have many issues with them. The Officejet Pro X series were great and the new PageWide range seem even better so far

HP makes the worst printers BY FAR. Their printers are bad enough, but their drivers and software.....I'd rather have a virus than HP's printer software.

Unfortunately it seems nobody makes a "good" printer these days. I'm not looking for excellent, or even great. I'd be happy with just "good." But I can't even get that.

I agree with HP printer software being garbage. Very seldom does and HP printer install go easy as it should. We also have been suggesting Brother printers and have had almost no issues if any with them.

I was given some HP cartridges sealed never opened I thought great when I installed then it said date had expired.

I have a canon MG5200 I use NON-OEM if I had to buy then from Canon I would have to re-morgage the house.
it will not print something in B/W if a color is low
If I bought a full set genuine Canon I would only get pennies change from $100

I did some work for a Realtors hanging on door knob was a Safeway plastic bag full of empty cartridges
I tried to talk him into buying a laser printer but he was not interested.

-Since 1998, I have used Epson Printers.
-Six months ago, I switched to HP due to lower Costs.
So far, so good.

I've been putting out a few Brothers lately and so far no issues! I have noticed the lights seem to flicker more now when the fuser warms up. Plugged into same outlet an HP it replaced was plugged into. Looked up the specs and the Brother pulls less of a load than the HP did during warmup. Couple different Brother models doing this as well. Might be just that one location. I'm bringing one of the printers home this weekend to check at my house. Goggle Fu seems to report it's a widespread occurrence with Brother.

I use a Canon MG2900. Never a day's problem. Every computer in the house can print to it and it worked the minute I plugged it in.

I had a brother MFC printer about 10 years ago, that worked wonderfully with
replacement ink cartridges. When I used to work for my uncle, we used the same
printer that I had at home. I got a refill kit for $20 that included four big bottles
of ink, the tools, and instructions on how to do it.

We printed thousands of sheets and never managed to use it all. It was in service
5+ years. Even if it did crap out in say a year or two... still highly worth it when a
set of OEM replacements were $40+

I'd rather be buying a new printer every other year than spending $40+ on ink
every other month. But then again, I realize not all third party solutions last as
well. Maybe there are some real crappers out there that will kill your machine
within the first few sets of carts you use.
