iPad 2 lock/power button and volume up, screen rotation

I have an iPad on my bench that the top lock/power button does not work EXCEPT for doing a hard reset(home+lock), the volume up button does not work and the screen will not rotate to landscape mode. This lady says that this happened after upgrading to ios6. I have tried doing a factory reset+restore in itunes, but that did not do it. I am sure this is some sort of software bug, but what to do?
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Rob.

Rob,

Have you tried to do a firmware downgrade to iOS 5 on it to see if that resolves the issues? Do a google search for "ipad firmware download" and you'll see a variety of sites with links to the firmware files direct from Apple.

Searching google for "restore ipad from restore file" will show you how to use the downloaded file to update the ipad.

You could also check to see if it's been updated with the latest iOS 6 version. I know there's been quite a few issues iOS 6 on various devices.

Hope that helps!

Mike

Unfortunately without SHSH blobs it won't be possible to downgrade.

Perhaps try the ios 7 beta? See if that clears it up.

Ios 6 is still being signed by apple, so you can always go back to ios 6 with a restore.

Thank you adapt, I tried upgrading it to IOS7, and besides things looking quite different, it still had the same bugs. I downgraded back to 6.1.3 again, and I still have the issues. I wish I knew of a nuke and pave option that would reset everything, not just what Apple wants done.

Thanks, I am still open to more ideas if people have them!

I would try a new power/volume flex. Since you are having problems with both the power button and the volume buttons, and they are both part of the same flex, it would be my next thing to check.

If the iPad screen is not cracked, you should be able to remove it without damaging it (but don't hold me responsible if you do :))

The power button works just fine, as long as you are doing the reset (home and power) so I know the power button is PHYSICALLY OK. I do not believe that this is a hardware issue, I am 100% sure it is software and I so I won't open her up. I have stopped doing hardware repairs on iPads, too much of a pain.

Sorry if this post is disjonted a bit.

Have you tried doing a DFU restore?

Instructions everywhere on the net. That way you know you're definitely starting afresh as it was new.
