ipad keyboard with remote software

I have a client that we tried Teamviewer and Jump desktop apps and they both have the same issue. When controlling a windows pc, the software keyboard will not input numbers. It seems to do all the letters on the keyboard ok, but when you switch to the numbers, it will just input the previous letter.

I didn't know if anyone has a solution to this or knows where to look at. I'm trying to research it out and find an answer.

The built in keyboard on the ipad works for everything else except this. Basically the windows computer is misinterpreting the keys input via the ipad virtual keyboard.

Thanks everyone,

Landon

Yeah, I am going to suggest that as it sounds like it could take care of it.

Is there a certain reason the software keyboard doesn't work, or just an ongoing issue type of thing?

This is with the software keyboard? Odd. I doubt that using a bluetooth hardware keyboard will get you any different results. Does the number keys work just fine in all other apps?

It won't.

Honestly, get the trial of log me in and see if it does the same thing.

I second the LogMeIn referral, great program.

Really need to go through solid troubleshooting here. Answer through testing the following:

  1. Does this occur on any other iOS devices?
  2. Does this occur with other apps?
  3. Does this occur when controlling other PCs?

Basically, find out where the problem lies, PC being controlled, iPad itself (or OS), those specific apps.

#2 :)

No I don't get anything from Logmein, but I stand behind the product.

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

No the problem doesn't happen on any other ipad apps. It only happens on the windows pc itself through the software keyboard. So I don't know if it's the app or the windows computer itself.

Unfortunately since I don't own an ipad at this time it is a little difficult to trial and error things right away. I'm not so sure log me in would be any difference since 2 remote apps have the same issue, but I will try that if nothing else emerges to try out.

It just seems like there's a setting or something on the ipad that needs changed in order to correct it, but just having a hard time pinpointing it.

Thanks,

Landon

Well, an easy way to find out is to try controlling another computer, I'm sure you have one of those ;) This will point the finger to the iPad or the Windows Machine.

If it works as expected with another PC, then you know the direction to go from there, troubleshoot the PC.

If, instead, it's still messed up on the other PC, try another app, preferably one that's often updated. (possible both of the ones you tried have bugs at the moment, possibly related to recent OS updates which would explain the similar bugs in two different pieces of software).

If it's just that iPad but any machine, any remote control app, then try and do an iTunes restore, first by restoring from a backup, then if still having trouble, as a new device.

Basically, just go through a normal troubleshooting workflow to narrow down the possible faults. We really need more information here.

I agree with all of this. The only other thing to try is to uninstall & reinstall the remote app on the iPad and the PC and see if that fixes it. I still think a bluetooth keypad would be a good workaround tho.;)

Thanks for the replies. I will try a few things on Monday and see what happens.

I've tried jump desktop and teamviewer and both to no avail. I will try controlling with a computer to rule out a windows issue. I may even try logmein even though I don't believe that will change anything.

I don't know if he will get a bluetooth keyboard. I know I would have to if I was using it lol.

Thanks,

Landon
