Hiya ,

I received this email today, it looks legit, until you think why Microsoft cant make the changes without having everyone ( millions of users? ) of outlook.com manually make these changes.

How many average users do they think could do this? it must be a scam don't you think ?

Anyone know if it is legit or not ?

for some reason the links don't show in the copied/pasted mail :( but they all start with "communication.microsoft.com"

Important information about your email service

Hello,

In the next few weeks we’ll be making some updates that will impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from getting delivered to the Outlook desktop application that you use. When you notice that you stop receiving messages, simply follow these two steps:

For Outlook 2003 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2003 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2003 desktop application

For Outlook 2007 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2007 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2007 desktop application

For Outlook 2010 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2010 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2010 desktop application

When the update happens, you may not be able to refer back to this email in your Outlook desktop application. We recommend bookmarking or saving the two links (remove and re-add) in steps 1 and 2 above that apply to the version of Outlook that you’re using. Remember, you can always access this message by logging in to your account at www.outlook.com at any time.

If you don’t know what version of Outlook you have, you can click here for instructions to find out.

Thank you for your understanding and continued use.

Yours sincerely,
The Outlook team

Seems legit (albeit ever cautious~!), as in, I see no attempts to get folks to go enter their account info into some bogus website, etc....

Appears about like one of MS's skype updates last year, where they pretty much force an MS account down assorted unwilling throats....

Just a feeling I have, but doesn't seem legit. First, the URLs don't look like what we normally see for MS web sites, even the "for more information" type links. Second, they include instructions for Outlook 2003 which is obsolete and no longer supported.

I don't see how that can't be legit. Like you said, all the links start with communication.microsoft.com, which is obviously owned and controlled by Microsoft.
