I avoid Tiger Direct...I've heard stories of them reselling returned parts as new, and I believe they once did that to me with a motherboard. I like using New Egg, and I've used Evertek, although with them you need a minimum ofc. I think overall you just need to shop around for the best prices for the items you're looking for.

Like Elemdee, I avoid (as in: never use) Tiger Direct.

I'll check NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, even Amazon for for typical items.

Also Pricewatch.com can be useful, but it's not what it was in it's glory days.

(As an aside, I wonder why this thread was posted to the "Remote Support" forum.)

I have had a one issue myself with tiger direct, it was with a monitor I bought theys sent me a broken one, I sent it back they then sent me the wrong one, and it took forever to get them to get my money back I should have saved a total of $30 on it, but with the shipping I paid to send it back twice i actually spent $25 over the orignal price. but thats one out of maybe 18 purcahses I have made.

Newegg is 10 times better.

but there is a link in my sig with a growing list of parts sites and venders.

I never purchase anything from TigerDirect online. A few years ago I purchased a dozen copies of Windows XP Pro OEM and on 4 of them the licenses were already activated via Windows activation. Although I purchased OEM 3 packs all of the pieces were loose, not in the 3 pack bundle (sealed cardboard box). Doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened there. I never had this issue with Newegg or ZipZoomFly.

TigerDirect also did some shenanigans with rebates in the past and way back they started posting their own reviews on ResellerRatings.

Also, I buy parts from a couple of local CompUSA locations near me when I need something quick (TigerDirect owns CompUSA) and I always see opened packages sitting on the shelf being sold as new. Sure, it could have been a customer who did it, but with the number of opened packages I've seen I doubt it and believe it's returns being placed back on the shelf.

Sorry for posting in "Remote Support" forum. Drinking may have had something to do with that!

I use Newegg and Fry's mostly. Deep Surplus for networking/cabling needs. Evertek is a part of Tiger Direct if I remember correctly. I have no experience with either.

+1 for Newegg for ease or ordering, tracking, history (last week had to find an invoice for warranty verification from 5 years ago, they had it online!), and prompt professional customer support.

For anything they don't carry, secondary choice is Amazon.

Another avid NewEgger here... if you get set up with a business account they treat you nice... lots of coupons.

Also, I use FireFox Extension Invisible Hand to make sure I'm getting a good deal. http://www.getinvisiblehand.com/

Have used ZipZoomFly in the past... never had an issue, but I trust NewEgg more.

When I started the business, I used TigerDirect for one big order. After I placed the order, they assigned me an account executive who would give me discounts on everything. He actually saved me thousands off their already low prices. About a year later he left the company, and my new rep did nothing at all for me. Then I heard a story (which I confirmed) about someone buying a large number of new Dell desktops from TD, but when they came in they were all refurbished. Was able to find this story all over the internet.

Since then, I no longer use them. I use company's like D&H, Newegg, Evertek, and Geeks.

I've use TigerDirect frequently to purchase parts including motherboards, CPU's, memory, power supplies, OS's, HDD's, and more. Haven't had a single issue with them. I have not ordered large volume with them though.

I see several people that use NewEgg so I may give them a try for my next parts order.

My perspective is somewhat different, being local. Setting up an account with a sales tax exemption is a nightmare and using it when checking out even more difficult. The last time I was there, they told me they change to CompUSA was a new system and I would have to start over. I only use them for the direst of emergencies - even Fry's is more customer friendly and that says a lot!

One time I was in Tiger and asked where the restroom was and the salesman said he would have to "escort" me. I have been successfully making this trip for over 50 years and didn't need his help. This is just the way they treat people. From what I understand, they treat their employees even worse. It's a sad commentary that they are successful, I guess.

Tiger is like best buy, When they have big sales, the sale items can often times be pots of gold and actually worth going after; but items that aren't on sale are often GROSSLY overpriced.

Also have been screwed by tiger on a return in the past and new egg is the best for many reasons like shipping (3 day shipments that only take one), returns (return label and full refunds everytime), History they keep, and they always have what we need.:)
