I've got about 30 computers all with 4th gen i5's in them, what would you do?

I have a ton of all similar computers, most are 4th gen Intel i5's give or take without HD's in them. I thought about dropping used SSD's in them and selling them on craigslist for $150 a piece but then I'd have to deal with "craigslist" people, the haggling, the scheduling, the follow-ups and secondary calls ehhhhh.

I called up a E-Waste company and they'll come pick them all up for free.

I never usually keep used stuff, maybe just enough to pull parts from but I've replaced all computers for a few businesses in the last few months and they're all just sitting in my warehouse. I have a few used SSD's laying around otherwise I'd have to put in some money for cheap SSD's and some labor to load W10 etc...

I'm really leaning towards just E-Wasting them to get them out of my life.

I still use those in production in most places lol

But were I in that position I'd keep a few around as spares to sell to clients when they're in a pinch, but for the rest either donate the things or scrap them.

Yeah I've got tons of residential clients and even some business that those would still work fine for lol.

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm already dealing with that crap. I'd buy them but I'd have to have them sent general delivery to protect my identity, and I have no desire to get the freaking virus over some 6+ year old computers. Throw them on Craigslist as a lot. Someone will buy 'em.

Does Occupant, Stately Wayne Manor, Gotham City, CA 90068 not work any more?
I'm such a boob that I barely get that reference, but haha, very funny. One day I'll leave this industry and when I do (assuming this website is still around by then), I'll have no problems revealing my old business to you guys. I have no idea what I'm going to do instead (maybe web design and development. I really hate it, but it does pay really well and has good recurring revenue.) but I can't stay in the computer repair/sales industry forever. Dealing with the general public sucks and it's putting me into an early grave.

Your niche market will come back!
Unfortunately my niche market is still the general public, it's just higher-end clientele. I don't service a lot of businesses because businesses are just as bad (just in a different way). I think I'm just sick and tired of people in general. People have changed a lot in the last 20 years, and not for the better. They're more selfish, have more unrealistic expectations, demand more for less, etc. and are much more superficial and vain. I personally couldn't care less what other people think of me unless it costs me business. Very few people know the real me and that's the way I like it. That's why I like spending time online. I can be the real me without any risk to me and if someone doesn't like me, they don't know who I really am anyway so it's no big deal.

I've learned to protect myself from people. People hurt you. I'm very selective with who I let get close. If I didn't have a business and was just some regular Joe working at a regular job renting an apartment I'd be a lot less cautious. As it is I've got a lot to lose if something goes wrong.

higher-end clientele
Let's say it's a better part of the "general public". Mine is mostly retired people with above average income. Don't want to do business anymore with the other kind of people, as long as I'm able...
100% with you on the "sick and tired of people in general" part :)

If they are still working computers, I'd wipe & overwrite the drives, put a basic install of Windows on them, and donate them to a worthy charity. It helps them out and keeps a bunch of stuff out of the waste stream that's otherwise usable. Any computers that I take in that I don't think I can sell to existing clients get donated to Habitat for Humanity.

That sounds like a good idea. I like that organization too.

Do they sell them in their stores? What do they do with them?

Yes, they sell them in their retail stores. I've donated probably 20-30 computers in the past couple of years and they don't seem to sit in the store for very long. I'm waiting for them to open back up again as I have another bunch to donate.

Put Linux MInt on them, easy to find Chrome shortcuts on taskbar, a few shortcuts, advertise them as secure surfing/banking systems! Even $75 out the door is easy money!

We are replacing these from many clients and reselling to other clients running much worse. Dells, i5 4th, 8gb, SSD. $150 with Win 10 out the door. Plenty fast for majority of clients and has TPM
