Keylogger needed for child monitoring

Hey gang, i have a client that needs to monitor what their children are doing on the computer. It is a vista 32bit machine and they would like a simple to read log of sites visited and test/passwords typed.

Does anyone have any suggestions of legitimate keyloggers they've used? If need be, it can be a purchased, but free is always great. I know i'll have to punch holes into their AV.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Kevin

Think I used Actual Keylogger at one point but after looking at the spec page, it's not supported on Vista. Still might work though. From what I remember, it had a good amount of features for free software.

whatever you install, you will probably need to add an exception for the security (AV/Malware) software they have installed as it will feak out when it spots the keylogging app. It would probably also be useful to have this conversation to the customer to check if they are planning on using to use any different security apps in the near future, and advise them that they will run inito issues if they change security suites (ie they will need to figure out how to get it to work without quarantining (and wrecking) the keylogger).

thanks guys, i put kgb free on there and it is ok, but a few things i didn't really care for with it.

I found this custom keylogger on bit torrent. I loaded it up on a VM and started playing with it a bit. I'm just not so sure about the fact that it is a custom logger. it does get good comments in the reviews/comments section below though

Why not just set the internet security settings to custom, setting everything to high and password protect, then when kids want to visit a website the parent has to type in password allowing them to check out the website.

I've used Spectorsoft products before and customers are very satisfied with them. Eblaster tends to be the more popular right now. Most customers don't want to completely invade their children's privacy, but want to make sure they know what's going on, so I set up a custom keyword list. Words like porn or party or xxx, or a certain friend or boyfriends name for example. Anytime one of those words gets typed in, they get an email alert (I offer to set up a gmail account for the reports to go to). This way they don't have to fish through every report to find out what they really want to know.

Yes, +1 for K9, we've installed that on several clients computers (and my kids computers @ home); for further 'safety' (although it's not so much monitoring as blocking) we use OpenDNS here and there, very customizable.

Interesting find. This issue has recently cropped up in our radar again for two separate businesses. Kidlogger might work for them.

A lot depends on how tech smart the "kids" are, and even then it's more of a defense in depth approach eg BIOS password, boot order, admin password etc then a magic bullet.
Revealer Keylogger (http://www.logixoft.com/index $49 ) is popular in some places. It has stealth mode, records keystrokes / screenshots and emails off the log files if required.
However, if you can't defeat it in under 15 mins don't call me. Top Tip: you need notepad.exe:p
