Hey gang, after doing a review of my marketing lists I have done here on the nibble, I went through and categorized them into how many technical repairs I have from each source.

The first line is how they found us, the /# is how many technical calls we have repaired. If you notice, many of the ways we get clients are not the norm, but it worked.

1.) Linkedin/319 (no kidding!)
2.) Referrals/212 (from networking friends or past clients)
3.) Lisa marketing/134 (flyers, word of mouth, handing out cards)
4.) Partnership with a server company/102 (they referred us home clients)
5.) Ewomen/62 (ewomen in a national networking group, I had booths and attended their lunches)
6.) Truck advertising/61 (from a $300 investment!)
7.) Jimmys List/45 (Jimmys list is a local email marketing company)
8. ) Sunday sale from one email marketing/25 (did a Sunday only sale)
9.) Brochures/24
10.) Speaking gigs/39 (spoke to many local groups about computers, safety, LinkedIn)
11.) Google Organic/19 (not many, but not bad for free)
12.) Yellowpages/18 (One ad that was put out in 2009)
13.) Womens Expo/26 (this was the big expo I did in Jan 2008 that launched CTG)
14.) Networking/Meetup/15 (This was from one networking meeting)
15.) Womens Press email/14 (sent out an email to this group)

No, no google ad words. I didn't really know about them until 2 years ago when I got a free credit from Godaddy and didn't know how to do it. I was afraid I would pay $100's a week and not get any sales. So from being scared of losing money, I went in another direction that I felt safe with, the networking and word of mouth.

Networking and word of mouth is a slower process, but I feel in the long run it's been quite awesome for building business. Clients I had 2 years ago are referring me here and there and that all ads up. I got a call last week from someone who said they got my name last year and never had a problem until now.

Wim, yes I expect Lisa Marketing to blaze past LinkedIn eventually. When I open our 3rd shop this spring/summer, we are going to market ONLY via social networking/blogging/friends/family/local websites and flyers. It's a unique town and we have an excellent target market with whom we are already very well connected. Should be an exciting opening without any big marketing/advertising budget needed. I plan on documenting every step of this opening in case I move to a franchise model someday.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the timeframe for the listed stats, Lisa? I am very, very surprised about LinkedIn. Excellent post!

It's actually quite amazing what you can do with LinkedIn, so many different techniques. I use probably 5 a week to touch people somehow. No one really understands when I say it works, it really does and it's a target market for res and com clients.

I started tracking my calls the day I had my first client, so this would be from Oct 2007 to Dec 2010. I haven't updated those with my Jan/Feb 2011 clients. But as you can see by my other post with the full list, I have 100's of ways I got clients, these are just the top 15. One of the oddest ones was from a Dr at the Mayo clinic that told his patient there was a computer repair shop on Broadway and the client walked down Broadway and saw my business and stopped in. Little did he know, the Dr was talking about the "other repair" shop down a few blocks. I just happen to be 5 blocks from Mayo and not 10. So I won that by default! I cracked up when I figured it out.
