I have around 40 MagSafe for repair. For most of them, the original cable has been cut.
Using Chinese clones of the power chord, I could successfully repair most of the MagSafe 1 , 60W and 85W.
The diameter of the wires was usually smaller than those of the 85W MagSafe (so would better fit 45W and 60W MagSafes), but basically they were working with 85W supplies as well.
I am less lucky with power chords for MagSafe 2.
Of a 5-pieces lot, two let me repair a 45W (A1436) and a 60W (A1435) power supplies.
The three remaining ones were tested with a 60W (A1435) and several 85W (A1424) power supplies.
The diode lights up as expected (green, then turns to orange), but the 13" MacBook Pro Retina (A1502) is unable to start from these supplies, whilst it is able to start from original not repaired supplies.
Since the diode lights up, and because I tested several MagSafe 2 that are visually in good condition (no visible burnt component), I assume the power supplies are ok, or at least that some of them should be.
Because there is some logic within the MagSafe connector (https://www.righto.com/2013/06/teardown-and-exploration-of-magsafe.html), I wonder whether I simply bought a bad lot of power chords (i.e. with 60% defective ones), or if among my lot are some magnetic connectors that are "programmed" for the 45W MagSafe 2.
I would appreciate if someone here has effectively replaced several power chords for the MagSafe 2 can share about his success rate, and if he paid attention to some details when ordering the replacement chords.
