I have a dead P/S I replaced it with another, fans come on but I don't have an 8 socket plug
only 2 x 6 sockets on replacement P/S
Does this mean replacement P/S cant be used its an old gaming computer that I was given so don't want to sink much money into it was hoping to use a P/S I had
would there be an adapter I could use? don't do much with Desktop hardware nowadays

That is an 8 pin EPS for CPU power. It's a replacement to the older 4 pin CPU power.

The 6 pins are PCIe power connectors for video cards, there are also 8 pin PCIe power connectors. THESE ARE DIFFERENT CONNECTORS!

Your power supply should have a 4 pin connector at least. You can try running with just a 4 pin in the 8 pin but it might not be enough power. Depends on what processor is in the board.

I would recommend you get a beefier power supply that has a 2x4 pin or an 8 pin connector. You can also get adapters:

Thanks, I used the 4 plug socket and it fired up was hoping it would have a better CPU G3240 @ 310 what looks likes a gaming rig tower

surprised they even still sell this CPU it must be 7 - 8 years old

As long as someone as stock they will sell it.

Very true nobody went bust underestimating people intelligence.

Gaming rigs have come a long way, this would be like a Commodore 64 to a hardcore gamer.
Guy who gave me this also gave me an HP XW6600 workstation 16 gig error checking memory
Zeon CPU weights a ton.
changed video card and now it works but again of little value, I thought this was the dog of the two
