Need Suggestion: New SATA to USB Adapter (and fix)

Ugh, I think my Kingwin EZ-Connect SATA-to-USB adapter just killed a customer drive during a cloning. The adapter is only 8 months old. When I connect the old drive (and a brand new drive), the drive does appear in my Windows 7 Disk Management console. But it remains offline, will not initialize, and says Disk Not Ready.

Luckily I made an Acronis clone of the original failing hard drive earlier this week (the beginning of this enter exercise), so I have that .tib file.

Does anybody have a suggestion as to ways to fix this and/or a better adapter for connecting drives in the future? I do have a MicroCenter nearby, BTW.

Many thanks.

EDIT: I'm sick of these adapters killing drives. I had a similar one kill a customer drive 8 months ago. I'm going to go with Jorge's suggestion from Podnutz Daily #406 of StarTech 2.5" & 3.5" Black SATA II USB 3.0 Dual 2.5/3.5in SATA Hard Drive Docking Station. I'm still looking for any suggestions for what to do with current drive, though.

I've used this one for a few years with no problems. I recommend it. Also, it will accept usb/camera/SD cards which is a plus.

I have the eSATA version and like it a lot. The problem with USB is sometimes they don't pass SMART data to the system. But I do love the speed of USB 3.0.

Agreed - StarTech dual bay.... FAST mount and easy swappable drives.

I seem to have better success with these cheap bays than with my more expensive bays.

One in each repair kit and one on every repair bench.... they are a must.

But, I don't have one that does camera cards... that model must have passed me by.

Btw, I don't use their software, I just use it to hook drives up to a system sometimes if I'm cloning a failing drive to a new one. Used it last weekend when someone's drive was failing, dropped the new drive in my dock, copied right to it.

*Edit* sorry, just realized kingwin stuff was what gave you trouble to begin with. Scratch my suggestion then.
