Hey guys - I have an old dead server from a client.

He is replacing his computer systems and does not want to fix the old server.

The Hard Drives need to be wiped though.

I missed the whole SCSI era - and simply need a way to connect these drives to my Bench PC and delete the data.

I have a picture of the connection the drive has.

An old PCI card with a cable is what I am looking for - just no idea what to search for!

Any thoughts would be great!

You just need a BFH. Cheap, solves the problem quickly and efficiently, and will last forever. Just stick one on the shelf.

I guess I forgot to mention that I wanted to keep the drives themselves intact. So getting that card off eBay seems like a good bet.

About the cable - a 68pin Ultra 320 Cable is all I would need to search for?

Also - what is a good drive wipe program for use inside windows?

I use DBAN from a boot CD - but I dont know if it would recognize the adaptec U320 PCI card if I got one.

Just searched eBay for Apaptec Ultra 320 SCSI and I get the Server PCI version of the card (which isn't the standard PCI format of my workstation) and the PCIe x1 cards (but they are $200!!).

I was looking for a cheap fix here - the PCI cards are nice - but not the right slot - unless they will actually work on a reg PCI slot.

I was looking for a cheap fix here -

Yeah more SCSI/RAID cards will not fit in workstation motherboards....won't be the correct slot type.

You can boot from CD with tools and may see the drives and allow you to wipe them. Like A_G said...BFH.....or any other physical means such as torx or philips drivers and pliers to get to the platters and then destroy them by hand. You will find that the fastest way. Drive wiping software runs for hours and even days. Destroying by hand...10 minutes...less once you get the hang of it. Nothing is faster unless you get a BFG and blow a hole in it.
